Three Basic Styles of Hearing Protection Aids

    February 23rd, 2010 by admin

Hearing protection aids or gehoorbeschermers as we call them, are devices which are especially designed to help the people who are suffering from hearing loss. There are many types of hearing protection aids that are being sold in the market. This article would mainly discuss the different styles of the hearing aids. There are actually five types of styles designed for hearing protection aids. Behind the Ear, In the Ear, In the Canal, Completely in Canal and the Open Fit are the type of hearing aid styles. The first one is the Behind the Ear or BTE for short. This style of hearing device is crescent in shape just like a shell and as the term implies, it is worn at the back of the ear. There is a tube connected to the BTE which flexible enough to capture sounds in the environment.ITE or In the Ear style of hearing aid fits the outer ear, also see alpine gehoorbescherming for more simple devices. It is mainly made up of hard plastic or an acrylic material. However, the downside of using this style of hearing protection aids is that it can be easily damaged by ear wax and ear drainage. Another one is the difficulty in adjusting the volume, feedback and battery change due to its small size. Next is the ITC or In the Canal. As the name implies, this style of hearing aid is worn directly in the ear canal. The face plate of this hearing aid is not visible when you are looking indirectly at the ear.     The next style of hearing protection, gehoorbescherming in Dutch, is the CIC or the Completely in Canal. It is like the ITC but it has a larger concealment area for the ear canal. Because it can be easily placed in an area near the ear drum, the user can easily hear the sounds around his environment. Due to its very small size, the volume control and battery change become a difficulty. The last style is the Open Fit or also termed as Open ear. It is the most widely available and popular hearing aid. It is considered to be the most comfortable hearing protection aids style.
